Most Hurricane yards are rock and gravel, and weeds love it. Puncturevine, better known as goatheads, spreads across gravel yards, driveways, and road edges, and its spiny seeds puncture bike tires and dogs' paws. Russian thistle grows into tumbleweeds on empty lots and blows into fences and yards. Spurge creeps through gravel and along sidewalks. None of these care much about how dry it is.
Hurricane's mix of new subdivisions, empty lots, and farmland means there's always a seed supply next door. On the bench and around Sand Hollow, open desert and undeveloped lots feed weeds into rock yards. In old town and near Hurricane Fields, irrigated ground and field edges keep weeds coming all season. Pulling them by hand never quite gets ahead of it.
Timing is what makes weed control work. A pre-emergent barrier in late winter stops many summer weeds before they sprout, and another in fall handles cool-season weeds like cheatgrass. The summer monsoon usually brings a flush of new weeds after the rain, so a summer touch-up keeps rock yards clean through fall.
Every weed control visit includes all of this. Where the time goes depends on your address.
Hurricane isn't one pest problem, and it isn't one treatment either. These are the parts of the city where this service does the most work, and why.
Rock and gravel yards next to open desert and empty lots. Goatheads and spurge spread through the gravel, and tumbleweeds blow in from undeveloped ground.
Rental and second-home properties where nobody is around to pull weeds between visits. A pre-emergent barrier keeps the yard looking cared for even when the owner lives elsewhere.
Field edges, ditch banks, and long fence lines with a constant seed supply. Treating along driveways, buildings, and fence lines usually makes the biggest visible difference.
Large lots with gravel side yards, alleys, cracked concrete, and irrigated beds. Lots of small, awkward areas where hand-pulling is tiresome and a pre-emergent barrier pays off.

Desert pest pressure is seasonal and it's predictable. Knowing which window you're in is most of knowing what to book.
Late-winter pre-emergentFebruary – March
Goes down before summer weeds like goatheads and spurge germinate. Hurricane's soil can warm a little later than St. George's, so we time it to conditions rather than a fixed date.
Monsoon touch-upJuly – September
Monsoon rain brings a fresh flush of weeds. Spot treatment clears what sprouts and keeps rock yards clean through fall.
Fall pre-emergentOctober – November
Targets cool-season weeds like cheatgrass that sprout in fall and winter. Skip it and those weeds are already up and seeding by spring.
If the weeds come back, so do we.
Free re-treats between scheduled visits, no questions, no extra invoice. That’s the Butter Promise.
Written for southern Utah specifically, not generic advice pulled from somewhere with a different climate.
Weed ControlTreating weeds early in the season breaks the seed cycle that makes them so much harder to control later.

Pull or treat the plants before they set seed, then use a pre-emergent barrier to stop the seeds already in the ground from sprouting. Goathead seeds can sit in the soil for years, so it takes a few seasons of consistent treatment to really get ahead of them. Late winter is the most important time to start.
Summer rain wakes up seeds that have been waiting in the gravel. A pre-emergent barrier applied earlier in the year reduces how many sprout, and a quick follow-up after the storms clears the rest before they set seed.
Yes. Weed control on a regular schedule keeps the yard looking maintained between guests, and we can coordinate with your property manager. It also helps with pests, since weeds give insects and rodents cover near the house.
Applied according to the label, yes, with a drying time to respect. We'll tell you how long to keep pets, kids, and animals off treated areas, usually a few hours. On farm properties, show us where animals graze and where water is, and we'll plan around them or skip those areas.
Weed control is bundled into the higher recurring plans rather than sold as a separate visit, since it runs on the same schedule as pest service. Large farm parcels in Hurricane Fields are quoted separately, because acreage and fence-line length drive the work. Most Hurricane homes sit on one of our monthly plans: Pest Control at $65/mo (quarterly service), Pest + Weed at $125/mo (bi-monthly service), or White Glove at $599/mo (by appointment only). Larger properties or heavy infestations can run higher, and we'll quote that up front after a free inspection.
Every visit covers: pre-emergent to stop weeds before they sprout; post-emergent treatment of existing weeds; coverage for rock, gravel, beds, and hardscape; seasonal timing for lasting results. What changes by address is the weighting. Sky Mountain & the bench and Sand Hollow are two different jobs, so the technician decides on site where the time is best spent rather than running the same checklist everywhere.
